Frank and the Soronprfbs
Frank is a 2014 Irish comedy-drama film directed by Lenny Abrahamson.
The story follows Jon, a young man with a strong interest in music, as he joins an eccentric band called "Soronprfbs" led by the title character Frank.
The film begins with Jon invited to join the band right before a concert, only asked if he is able to play a few chords (Don: You play C, F and G? Jon Burroughs: Yeah. Don: You're in) and the story begins...
The movie is a fictional story mostly inspired by Frank Sidebottom, the comic persona of Chris Sievey, a Brit comic, popular in the underground scene in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
He used to wear a fake head with a cartoon face painted on it, styled like an early Max Fleischer cartoon.
Only his inner circle saw him without it.
Here is one of Frank Sidebottom's appearances in British National TV, in 1985.
The plot was also inspired by other musicians like Daniel Johnston and Captain Beefheart. Jon Ronson, who co-wrote the film, was also part of Sidebottom's band.
The music performed by the band in the film was recorded live by the cast while filming. The movie's main song "I love you all", is an excellent post-punk music production filled with a psychedelic touch.
